Burner Perfume No.10: Chrysalis

“When the marvelous butterfly takes wing, nothing of the caterpillar remains”, Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Butterflies are our most beautiful and obvious metamorphs, a living metaphor of an organism’s ability to transform. But it is the chrysalis that fascinates me; this tiny crucible of change that turns a caterpillar into a poem of color and flight. The chrysalis of a Monarch butterfly begins as a beautiful, opaque shade of jade green. As the butterfly develops, the chrysalis slowly becomes more and more translucent, until you can clearly see the beauty within it.

Chrysalis the perfume mimics this metamorphosis. Beginning with a burst of fruity, green notes: Vanuatu pepper, green coffee, tomato leaf, rhubarb, green apple and melon aldehydes. The heart features violet and sweet clover (a favorite food of Monarch butterflies) before segueing into a constructed, translucent, crystalline musk that is softly animalic.

The first run of every Burner Perfume is given away at Burning Man as my artistic gift to the community.
